In all 50 states, you will have to complete a mandatory 20 Hour SAFE course approved by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). 33 states/territories also require a state-specific course for pre-licensing.

Course: 20 Hour SAFE Comprehensive PE Online Instructor Led (OIL)
Price: $285.99
Positive Reviews: The BBB reviews for this school are mostly positive with former students stating that the coursework was, “great, engaging, and made it easy to retain information.”
The tutor, Alan Griffin, comes highly recommended both for his interpersonal skills and mortgage knowledge.
AAA’s Indeed reviews backed these up, with one student saying that the course had a great structure and provided up-to-date information on the mortgage industry.
Negative Reviews: We did pick up one complaint on BBB from a student who wasn’t satisfied with the way the course was organized and delivered. The student did receive a full refund.

Arizona School of Real Estate & Business
About: Arizona’s School of Real Estate & Business offers courses that are accessible 24/7. By its own admission, students have been able to complete the SAFE 20-hour course in as little as 2.5 days through the online webinar portal.

Another user gushed about the tutor, “Andy Helfman is an incredible teacher. He has the ability to teach tough material but also keep everyone interested.”
Negative Reviews: ASREB also has a couple of negative Yelp reviews with one user stating, “This school and the curriculum is a huge disappointment. Limited resources available to students, unless you pay. Instructors love to tell meaningless stories that have no association with the course material.”

Negative Reviews: A few Facebook reviews state that their customer service leaves something to be desired.
Cape isn’t widely reviewed. You won’t have a lot to go by if you’re picking this school.

Positive Reviews: Champion’s Facebook reviews are mostly positive, with one user saying, “Took my courses through Champion Live..prep class this last week and passed the exam the first attempt! Highly Recommended.”
Another said, “Great curriculum, staff, and teachers. They are very knowledgeable, helpful, and make the content easy to understand.”
On Yelp, users were similarly impressed with one saying, “I took the 3-day required course for mortgage loan origination certification as well as the three day test prep course. The information shared was relevant and applicable to the actual test.”
Negative Reviews: Yelp also has a few negative reviews, with one frustrated former student venting that the instruction was vague and the tutor spent time reading from the book instead of imparting practical knowledge.
The user continues, “I paid $400 for someone to tell me to read a book that offers half the info needed and now I’ll be buying another course from hopefully a legitimate prep course school.”

A Google user also reviewed the school quite positively saying, “Florida Mortgage School is a great mortgage school with very professional, friendly, and helpful staff.”
Negative Reviews: This school isn’t very widely reviewed by students.
As far as negative feedback goes, it did receive a one-star Google review rating, however, the user did not specify the issue.

Key Realty School
About: Key Realty School prioritizes quality training in mortgage lending, real estate, property management and more, with over 50,000 students having been through its doors since 1991.
KRS’s mortgage lending courses are designed to comply with NMLS requirements, and use top-notch instruction to set students up for success in their MLO careers.
Students are required to attend in-class sessions at KRS’s Nevada location to complete the course. You cannot earn your mandatory 10 hour Nevada state law credits at this school as it does not seem to offer the course.
Course: The 20 hour National Mortgage Licensing course – (The National and Practical Side) (Online + In-Class Instruction)
Price: $299
Positive Reviews: Key Realty School has picked up some pretty impressive reviews on Indeed, with most users stating that major standouts for them were the “Flexible class hours, Good teachers, Affordable, Positive environment.”
Its Yelp reviews second this, also indicating that most students were pleased with the coursework and the instructors.
Negative Reviews: Although these were fewer in number, there are some negative reviews on Facebook, with one being, “Sadly this is the only option for Las Vegas and they charge outrageous fees to have so called “teachers” read books in class instead of actually teaching!”

“Comprehensive, enjoyable, and easy-to-follow” was the general consensus among students.
Negative Reviews: LOC did pick up 2 complaints on BBB; one user cited issues with accessing the course on their devices.
The other complaint pointed out a miscommunication between the instructor and student on how long it would take to complete the course.
Neither complaint has been resolved.

Negative Reviews: Although you do have to dig a little to find them, former students have also left a few scathing remarks about MEC’s course.
On Trustpilot, one user said, “I watched the whole course and felt like I didn’t learn anything. There are videos within a course that have repeated the same video 2 times. Totally a waste of time.”

Positive Reviews: Going by its positive reviews on Indeed, OnCourse has definitely made a splash with some students.
“Flexible class hours and good career preparation”, seem to be the general consensus.
Negative Reviews: The company has its fair share of negative reviews on BBB. A couple of students reported problems when they tried to log back in to access the course.
There were also some concerns about the lack of disclosure as to how many times the final exam could be taken.
OnCourse seems to be responsive and most complaints have been resolved satisfactorily.
